1. Tell us a bit about yourself and Emerald Bridal?
Well, funnily enough, it was never my plan to open a bridal shop. I have always adored wedding gowns and I can remember as a young girl playing dress ups in bridal gowns when I used to visit my Aunty who owned a factory where she produced thousands of gowns for international designers.
Just like any young girl I used to dream of one day finding my special dress and walking down the aisle at my own wedding. Fortunately, that day happened for me after 27 years of waiting for my someone special. This moment changed my life and I found myself so immersed in planning my wedding. Like any bride I had to make the difficult decision – do I search for the perfect gown or do I create one myself? I decided I wanted to create something that was unique and quintessentially me.
Finding the right designer can be hard but eventually, I found a designer who sketched a few gowns for me and we worked with a team of very skilled dressmakers who have been manufacturing for international bridal brands for years. My journey of creating my own special gown then sent me down a very different career path then I had planned. It was not until I went through this process of creating my own bridal gown that I decided I wanted to pursue a career path of helping other brides do the same and before I knew it my company was born.
This designer who breathed life into my own wedding dress later became the Creative Director of my company. Together we decided that we wanted to create a brand that specialised in feminine and elegant designs that boasted clean silhouettes, exquisite laces and delicate hand beaded embroidery. Our materials which are from across Europe and Asia are not only of the highest quality but are also sourced at the best price. Our mission is to ensure that every bride can afford a couture inspired gown.
2. What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is seeing brides who can’t stop smiling when they have found the perfect dress. Seeing a bride madly in love with their dress is a priceless moment. Finding the right wedding dress is such an emotional and personal journey as most girls have fantasied about their wedding their whole lives. While this process can be exciting it can equally be stressful. I like to make sure that my team and myself are as helpful as possible throughout this process. We love the moments that we spend with our brides – hearing about their story on how they met their partner, their relationship journey and how it led to the proposal.
3. What makes you different from others in your field?
We genuinely love to work closely with our brides. We understand every bride is unique and might have different budgets or design requirements for her dress. We want to make sure we are able to find the one that will not only meet all of their requirements but will be one that they absolutely love. We also pride ourselves in the producing the best quality couture inspired gowns at affordable prices. We don’t cut corners and we guarantee our gowns will provide a comfortable and luxurious experience for all.
4. What are two things Brides need to know before going to your store?
We ask that our brides have booked their wedding venue and have a finalised date before they come to see us. This is purely due to the fact that we need to know when we need to have the dress ready for the final alteration.
We also sell a ready to wear collection which is made to order so we do require at least five months to have your dress ready with no extra urgent fees.
5. Are there any trends you absolutely love or would love to see brides leave behind?
I personally love a beautiful low back gown. It is the perfect timeless silhouette that is both elegant and undeniably sexy. Low back gowns can either be low plunging, open back or made of illusion tulle. This design is especially beautiful because as you pass down the aisle on your wedding day, everyone will be captivated by the back of your dress.
On the other hand, I am not particularly fond of low plunging or v neckline gowns. The low plunge neckline was very popular in the 2016-2017 wedding season but it doesn’t suit the body shapes of most brides who may have a larger bust size. Low plunge v neckline dresses offer less support so often clients who want this style of neckline find it’s not suitable.
6. What’s one tip you want to give Brides on their Wedding Day?
Don’t forget to pause and enjoy the moment for yourself.
No matter how stressful the day may seem, always remember that you have a team of loving and dedicated bridesmaids and family members who will be ensuring the day is a success. Let them worry about the finer details and focus on enjoying the day with your partner. Remember to take photos that aren’t just professional but ones that truly capture the day. Enjoy the food and immerse yourself in the beauty of the venue. All the hard work of planning is done so nothing is more important than just smiling and enjoying your special day.
